Newport Artillery Company Visits St. John's Lodge
The Artillery Company of Newport, established in 1741, visited St. John's Lodge No. 1 on July 11th, 2016 to give a presentation on the history of their outfit, as well as to demonstrate a blank firing of one of only four of the remaining cannons cast by Paul Revere, along with several flintlock muskets.
Colonel Robert S. Edenbach of the Artillery Company of Newport gives his presentation.
The Worshipful Master prepares to fire the cannon. Among the cannon team are lodge members Bro. Dean Holt and Bro. Michael Pine.
Members of the lodge and public in attendance were invited to try their hand at firing powder-only shots with the flintlock muskets.
The second cannon shot - the percussion was enough to almost knock the camera off of the tripod!
